Kaiser Permanente Success Stories
I was born at Kaiser and have been a member for the majority of my life. In a world of managed care, Kaiser is pretty damn amazing in my book and they get the full five stars for all they do.
REASONS I LOVE KAISER:
- I can email my doctor and get a response usually in 24 hours.
- I can call a nurse at 2 pm and have a meaningful interchange about whatever the problem is.
- They have some awesome classes and support groups. I was able to learn new skills instead of taking more drugs.
- They have improved their systems SO much in the past 8 years.
- Test results are usually posted online before I've even driven home from the facility.
- Mail order prescriptions.
Kaiser is both a health insurance and medical care...which are TWO different things. (I don't think having health insurance = good health care). Based on that, I'd like to give a review on my experience with it as a consumer of insurances (military insurance-tricare, blue shield, and aetna).
I have had 2 different Kaiser Plans:
I was a little disappointed when I discovered that my new teaching job only had Kaiser as the medical benefits, as I had heard some bad things about it. Hallelujah, I have seen the light. Every experience I've had here has been top-notch.
For over ten years now, my life has been one of needles, medications, doctors, nurses, horrific ER visits, life-threatening events, and deadly to surprising to grateful news...all found within the walls of Kaiser Hospital. Since I was a young girl, bloody noses had to be stopped in ER rooms, because I had low platelet counts. Platelets are cells that stop bleeding in a human's body. Also, due to my low blood cell count, I had many bruises on legs and arms from playing sports...i was very active in my youth and young adult years.
Through Kaiser Permanente's Healthy Lifestyle and Weight Management Program, James "Bubba" Barrera lost 203 pounds. He started with small changes to his diet and then gradually began adding regular physical activity into his life. Now, James can play with his young son without getting tired. He is hooked on getting fit and feeling great.
How much weight have you lost?
In July 2006, I weighed 453 pounds. Now I weigh 250 pounds. I've lost 203 pounds.
