Kaiser Permanente is 8.7 million members strong, making it one of the largest HMO providers in the United States. Membership continues to grow steadily, with about 300 people applying for private health insurance on a daily basis. This is wonderful news for any business that wants to grow. In 2010, however, the application process was temporarily but substantially slowed down. The goal of this article is to share how Kaiser Permanente took drastic steps to improve their application turnaround from six weeks to one week.

With the exception of children younger than 19 and adults who are seeking group health coverage, people with pre-existing health conditions can still be denied for private medical insurance. The eligibility criteria varies according to each insurance company, but basically, underwriters are looking for health issues that are recurring, chronic, or severe.

OAKLAND, Calif. — Kaiser Permanente announced today that employers ranked the organization’s health plan the highest among fully insured commercial health plans in the J.D. Power and Associates 2011 U.S. Employer Health Insurance Plan StudySM. The organization received top marks across five key areas that affect employer satisfaction with carriers, including employee plan service experience; account servicing; product offering/benefit design; problem resolution; and cost/cost management.

LOCK IN YOUR RATES UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 2011
Our rates are changing on July 1, 2011. If you apply now for new coverage and are approved with a June 2011 effective date, you can lock in the current 2011 rates until December 31, 2011, as long as no other changes are made to your account.
Children seeking coverage with a June 1, 2011, effective date must submit an application on or before May 15.

California Qualifying Events
For a child under age 19, the effective date will be the 1st of the month with the submission deadline of the 15th of the previous month. An application received the 16th through the end of the month will be effective the following month.
If your child does not have a qualifying event 30 days from the submission date, or prior insurance the last 63 days, the rates may be subject to change.

Since the beginig of 2011 to get a quote and/or apply for Kaiser Family plan each family member has to complete their own separate quote and/or application.
Since the health care refom was signed in to the law no insurance carrier can decline coverage to anyone under the age of 19. The decisio was made to separate family coverage to individual health plans since adults still have to go through underwriting process and kids do not.
